Lithium ion batteries (LIBs) have been used to power portable electronic devices, and are promising nex generation power sources for hybrid electrical vehicles and electrical vehicles, etc. with their high energy density and durable properties.Poly-methacrylic acid (PMAA) binders offer high concentration of functional groups and enables a very good cycling performance of the state-of-art graphite anode. However, PMAA is a brittle polymer and causes delamination during laminate processing. Polyethylene oxide (PEO) has a low glass transition temperature, allows ion transport at ambient temperature and provides flexibility for polymer material. Therefore in this study PMAA based polymers with addition PEO- containing monomers are synthesized demonstrated to improve the battery performance, which was attributed to the increased mechanical stability of the electrode during cycling. The structure of polymer binder and schematic of electrode in the Li+ insertion and Li+extraction process are demonstrated in Figure 1.
