Metal foams consist of a single network which structure is interconnected together from the outer surface until the inner body and exhibits the controlled pore size, low relative density and high porosity. Especially, Fe and Cu porous foam has been researched in use as new materials for a heat sink, dust and fluid filters, catalytic supporters. For most industrical applications of metal foams, open pores are required. In this study, the Fe and Cu porous foam was fabricated by a slurry coating process and then consolidates at a heating temperature, differentiated by the coating amount and the type of polyurethane foam which used as for templates. The pore characteristics of metal foam were investigated by scanning electron micrographs and micro-CT analyzer. And the permeablity of metal foam was measured by capillary flow porometer. The Fe and Cu foam with above 90% porosity and 2 millimeter pore size was successfully fabricated by a slurry coating process. Hence, we confirmed that the characteristics of metal foam can be easily controlled by the slurry coating process with changing the microstructure, porosity, pore size, strut thickness and the cell size.
