A novel one-step vapor-fed aerosol flame synthesis process has been developed to synthesis Ti3+ self-doped Titanium dioxide (TiO2). The sample was obtained by in situ introducing of H2 above the flame where the TiO2 was formed. The just formed TiO2 was surface hydrogenated during the condensation stage and Ti3+ ions are created near the surface. The sample showed a high absorption of visible light, and the bandgap was calculated to be 3.07 eV. The relative content of Ti3+ near the surface TiO2 is estimated to be 7.6%. The photocurrent density and decomposition of MB under visible light irradiation were remarkably enhanced, because of the high adsorption of visible light and suppression of charge recombination. This study demonstrates a simple and potential method to produce Ti3+ self-doped TiO2 with effective photocatalyst activity under visible light irradiation.
