Visible-light photoredox catalysis exhibits high functional group tolerance and chemoselectivity ideal for alkaloid synthesis.  We report a strategy which utilizes photoredox catalysis over multiple synthetic steps in the conversion of catharanthine to a number of Aspidosperma alkaloids.  This strategy has allowed for the synthesis of (-)-pseudotabersonine, (-)-pseudovincadifformine, related natural products, and a number of structural analogs.
