Progress towards the total synthesis of polychlorinated marine steroids, clionastatins A and B, will be disclosed. Completion of a tricyclic model system, featuring a key Diels-Alder cycloaddition, will be discussed. Further work leading to the complete carbon skeleton will also be disclosed.
