Buprofezin (2-tert-butylimino-3-isopropyl-5-phenyl-1,3,5-thiadiazinan-4-one) is used against sucking insect pests. In this study, degradation of buprofezin was investigated under controlled laboratory conditions in soil. The application rates were 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 �g/g fortification levels. The study was carried out at 25 � 2 �C and at 60% of maximum water holding capacity of the soil. Residue of buprofezin was measured by validated reverse phase - HPLC method. Dissipation of buprofezin in soil followed first-order reaction kinetics at all application rates under biotic conditions. The half-life of buprofezin in soil ranged from 36 � 50 days at different dose levels. Buprofezin degradation patterns were found to be highly influenced by application rates and biotic factors.
