The isothermal growth rates of poly(ethylene naphthalate), PEN, crystals were measured between 190 and 240�C using a system of polarized light microscope. It presents a non-bell shape with a maximum growth rate of 1.29x10-2 mm/sec at 210�C. The WAXD patterns of isothermally crystallized PEN show two crystal forms that explain the non-bell distribution of the isothermal growth rates. A nonisothermal experiment at a cooling rate of -3�C/min was performed and lasted 65 min. A continuous non-bell curve of isothermal growth rates between the melting and glass transition temperatures can be obtained after curve fitting procedures. This non-bell curve fits very well with those data points determined in the isothermal experiments, which are very time consuming. Additionally, morphology of isothermally and nonisothermally crystallized specimens were monitored and recorded, and will be discussed in this study.
