It has not been generally recognized that many of the goals described in the Principles of Green Chemistry necessarily make the laboratory or chemical manufacturing facility safer for employees. Further, the main features of Inherently Safer Design technology also align well with green chemistry. This paper will explore these connections and encourage chemical safety professionals to embrace green chemistry as a means protecting both employees and the environment.
