Transition metal-catalyzed intramolecular hydroacylation of olefins is a powerful method for the synthesis of carbocyclic and heterocyclic ketones. Currently, a limited number alkene hydroacylations to generate or functionalize nitrogen heterocycles are known. This lecture will present studies to establish enantioselective alkene hydroacylation as a practical method to synthesize polycyclic nitrogen heterocycles with an emphasis on catalyst design elements that enable these reactions to occur in the absence of chelation assistance.
