The enantioselective Petasis reaction is catalyzed by chiral biphenols as a route to synthesize �-amino alcohols. This method was used in the construction of aryl- and styrenyl-derived amino alcohols with both primary and secondary amines as reaction partners. Amino alcohols were obtained in good yields (up to 92%) and enantioselectivities (up to >99:1) through the use of 1.5 - 8 mol% (S)-3,3'-dibromobiphenol.
