Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a fast-growing class of porous materials. Due to their intrinsic properties such as high specific surface areas and defined pore sizes, they have great potential for applications in the areas of gas storage and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, or sensing.[1]Structure and topology of the MOFs are usually encoded in the geometry of metal clusters as secondary binding units being cross-linked by di- or tritopic organic struts. Incorporation of multifunctional organic building blocks may increase the structural variety leading ultimately to novel materials with unprecedented properties. Icosahedral [60]Fullerene hexakisadducts with up to 12 functional sites are intriguing examples for such building blocks.Herein we report on the design, synthesis and characterization of metal-fullerene framework MFF-1  as the first example of a fullerene-containing three-dimensional MOF. In the absence of metal ions, dodecaacid 1  crystallizes in a densely packed hydrogen-bonding network,[2] whereas cross-linking with zinc clusters leads to porous framework MFF-1  .
