Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensors offer an opportunity for performance of rapid, label-free, and ultrasensitive analysis of molecular analytes in complex biofluids. We present results on the development of a new SERS-based sensor for detection of glucose in physiologically relevant concentration ranges. Additionally, we will discuss the development of surface-enhanced spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SESORS) for detection of analytes through bone. It is anticipated that these through-bone SESORS measurements will enable real-time, non-invasive spectroscopic measurement of neurochemicals through the skull, as well as other biomedical applications.
