This presentatation with outline our more recent efforts in the understanding and application of IR MALDESI to tissue and chemical imaging.  Using nanosecond shadowgraphy we will demonstrate plume dynamics as a function of different sample types and how this translates into mass spectrometry response.  This and other fundamental insights into this novel imaging ionization method will be presented.  We will also demosntrate several applications of IR MALDESI for tissue and chemical imaging using different mass spectrometer operational modes (e.g., broadband, SRM).
