This investigation focuses on the structure of the nano-composite of ZrO2 nanoparticles supported on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) � ZrO2/MWCNT, and on its sulfated derivative, S-ZrO2/MWCNT. The design, synthesis, and characterization of this catalyst is described. X-ray absorption spectroscopic (XAS) analysis at the absorption edge of each element (Zr, S, C, O) in S-ZrO2/MWCNT is used to define bonding and charge transfer among these elements and to spectroscopically define the acid site.
