Fluorinated aromatic molecules have recently found wide application in both agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, there is an increasing desire to form aryl-F bonds efficiently using mild conditions and readily available, inexpensive starting materials. Current fluorinating methodologies are often limited by the use of expensive electrophilic fluorinating reagents and the requirement of harsh reaction conditions. Recently, we reported a mild copper-mediated fluorination reaction using aryltrifluoroborates and potassium fluoride. This poster will discuss our ongoing efforts towards elucidating the mechanism, expanding both the nucleophile and substrate scope, and achieving copper-catalyzed fluorination.
