PtII/PtIV monomethyl and dimethyl complexes with the hemilabile NNO (NNO = bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)-acetate) ligand were prepared, characterized and studied in aqueous solution.  Reactions of a PtII monomethyl hydroxide complex with oxygen resulted in oxidation to a PtIV monomethyl complex in competition with methyl group transfer to form a PtIV dimethyl complex. Methyl transfer was favored under more alkaline conditions and at higher temperatures. Reductive elimination of methanol has been observed from the PtIV monomethyl complex. Mechanistic investigations of both the oxidation and the C-O reductive elimination will be described.
