The deliberate introduction of impurities into semiconductors can be used to control their physical properties, and has been exploited extensively in information processing, solar energy conversion, and other semiconductor technologies. This talk will focus on the introduction of open-shell transition metal ions into colloidal II-VI semiconductor nanocrystals, and will emphasize the manipulation of the photophysical, luminescent, and magneto-optical properties of these nanocrystals through dopant-carrier and dopant-exciton exchange interactions.
