Ultrasmall copper nanoparticles were successfully synthesized with a plant-leaf tea as the reducing agent. The one-pot, room temperature synthesis produces nanoparticles that have diameters of <5 nm.  Most of the nanoparticles produced are single-crystalline. UV-vis, FTIR and HR-TEM were used to characterize the nanoparticles. Lattice spacing measurements consistent with copper were found with HR-TEM.
