For more than a century the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry (ORGN) has promoted the development and growth of the field of organic chemistry. For much of this period, progress in organic chemistry was facilitated by an ever expanding resource pool of inexpensive raw materials and feedstocks. In the early 21st century Organic Chemistry faces an increasingly resource-constrained future, with limited availability and escalating price for a number of once plentiful materials. In this presentation we provide an overview of recent progress in the developing the sustainable organic chemistry that will be required for benefiting earth and its inhabitants in the years ahead.
