The use of polymers is widespread and can be found in nearly every item we use in our daily lives and many more in the future to come. Polymers have and will continue to significantly impact sustainability by both directly replacing polymers derived from constrained resources with polymers from renewable, sustainable feedstocks and through their use in applications such as water, food and energy. The Polymer Chemistry Division has played a significant role in advancing the field of sustainable polymers to aid in overcoming these challenges. Over the past decade, the POLY division's focus on sustainability has led to the organization of numerous symposia at ACS National meetings, created new conferences with attendees from diverse disciplines and stimulated increased awareness to help galvanize this field. Here we will present POLY's past activities and plans to continue to advance this pivotally important subject area. In addition to our Division's activities around sustainability, we will present technical examples of how polymers can be key drivers in advancing global sustainability.
