Pyridines and heterocyclic thiones are among the most common nitrogen- and sulfur-donor ligands but, unexpectedly, the coordination chemistry of simple bidentate ligands containing both functional groups remains chiefly unexplored. The (mercaptoimidazolyl)pyridine (mpyMe) and (mercaptoimidazolyl)picoline (mpicMe) ligands and their selenium analogues (sepyMe and sepicMe, respectively) have been used to prepare complexes of both transition and main group metals, including derivatives of zinc(II), cadmium(II), mercury(II), copper(I), silver(I), indium(III), tin(IV) and bismuth(III). We describe herein the synthesis and reactivity of the first examples of molybdenum(0), manganese(I) and rhenium(I) complexes supported by these mixed-donor ligands. More specifically, this presentation will outline the preparation, complete characterization, and preliminary reactivity studies of complexes such as LMo(CO)4 and LM(CO)3Br (M = Mn, Re), where L is one of the aforementioned ligands.
