Carbodicarbenes were first introduced conceptually as interesting carbon(0) compounds. Our lab has managed to synthesize a small family of these compounds, which we viewed as bent allenes. We found that they are much stronger sigma donors than carbenes, making them promising ligands. However, as they are relatively new species, the number of derivatives is limited. The expansion to derivatives with different steric and electronic properties will be discussed. The ensuing products have slightly differing properties, and an interesting self-dimerization will be presented.
