A concurrent tandem catalytic (CTC) methodology has been developed that renders aryl bromides and aryl chlorides equal in reactivity to aryl iodides. The tandem catalytic cycle consists of an initial halogen exchange step to form aryl iodides from less reactive aryl bromide and aryl chloride substrates. As the aryl iodide intermediate is generated, it is consumed as the substrate in subsequent coupling reaction. CTC methodologies for C-H, C-C, and C-N bond-forming reactions starting with aryl chlorides and aryl bromides will be presented.
