The majority of students in the organic chemistry courses in many colleges are biology and pre-med majors and for decades there have been calls from national committees  to make organic chemistry courses better integrated with biology and medicine.  Biological topics have been added into many organic textbooks, but are often added as frosting onto relatively unmodified traditional organic chemistry topics.  An overview of a more integrated course in bioorganic chemistry  taught at Oregon Institute of Technology will be presented. Topics from physiology, chemical ecology, medicine, and pharmacology are used to illustrate organic structure-function topics.
