Flipped teaching is a technique where students watch short online video lectures outside of class and spend class time working on improving their problem solving skills.  An overview of the preparation of videos and implementation of flipped teaching techniques in a one-year organic chemistry sequence will be presented.  This lecture will describe those techniques deemed most effective by students at Fort Lewis College, a small public liberal arts college with a relatively large percentage of minority students.  Data supporting the relationship of flipped teaching techniques to a significant increase student retention, improved course evaluations, and an increase in student performance on a final standardized exam will also be presented.
