Because mechanistic toxicology has not been historically taught to chemistry students, chemistry departments are presented with the problem of �how will we teach this information?� and �who will teach it?�. The chemistry community is going to have to rely on a creative and diverse set of resources to meet this demand. In order to successfully integrate concepts of mechanistic toxicology into the chemistry curriculum, a �one size fits all� approach is inappropriate. Chemistry departments must have the ability to customize this information in ways that fit their needs. This presentation will provide various illustrative examples including (a) a stand-alone class on mechanistic toxicology, (2) part of a larger stand-alone class on toxicology and environmental health sciences or (3) distributed throughout the traditional chemistry curriculum. Representative syllabi, model lesson plans and potential reference materials will be discussed.
