How can schools, universities and companies work together to excite students between grades 3-10 to choose chemistry, science and technology as their future career? With KINDERFORSCHER AN DER TUHH the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) has eight years of experience in creating school and after-school science programs, shows and public presentations. KINDERFORSCHER enables teachers to prepare their students prior to visits in university science labs and companies such as the Shell, Sasol Wax and many more. Teachers receive general worksheets with company specific solutions enabling them to prepare their students and themselves for their cooperation. Furthermore KINDERFORSCHER lends teachers preparatory experiments. These start with an everyday experience, lets youngsters get a hands-on experience in the science involved, continues with what research is working on now and shows students which careers fit to which scientific interests. Thus prepared, students up to grade 6 visit university research groups. Students grade 7 and over visit companies, whereby first of all the students give a presentation about company products, their production, implemented resources and the scientific professions that are needed in the company. Hereby students are recognized as competent visitors and participate in the subsequent program presented by the company more intensely. The presentation will include how we excite youngsters to want to become the scientists, teachers and engineers of tomorrow; how we enable teachers to include modern research & production in science projects and after school programs; how we build a bridge between schools, universities & companies; and finally how we get parents to support their children once they are excited for a scientific career.
