Trinuclear iron-oxo-centered catalysts ([Fe3(�3-O)(�2-O2CR)6(H2O)3]O2CR where R = CH3 and C(CH3)3) were synthesized by heating iron(III) chloride in the presence of the corresponding carboxylic acid (acetic acid or pivalic acid). Once the catalysts were synthesized and characterized, the oxidation of allylic acetates in the presence of the catalysts was examined. Previous work on trinuclear iron(III) catalysts has shown that the oxidation of geranyl acetate occurs only at the terminal alkene and yields were shown to be relatively high (87% yield; no reaction without catalyst).We extend these studies by examining the activity of the iron catalysts as well as new molybdenum-oxo centered catalysts; [Mo3(�3-O)2(�2-O2CCH-3)6(H2O)3]Br2 and  [Mo3(�3-O)(�3-CCH3)(�2-O2CCH-3)6(H2O)3]Br.
