In recent years, porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted great attention due to their intriguing structures and interesting properties in storage, adsorption and separation, ion and molecular recognition, ion-exchange, catalysis etc. We focus our attention on preparation, structure and property of MOFs with carboxylate and/or N-donor containing ligands such as N-(4-pyridylmethyl)iminodiacetic acid (H2PMIDA), [1,1':3',1''-terphenyl]-4,4'',5'-tricarboxylic acid (H3TPTC), 3,5-di(pyridine-4-yl)benzoic acid (HDPB), 1,4-di(1H-imidazol-4-yl)benzene (H2L1), 1,3,5-tri(1H-imidazol-4-yl)benzene (H3L2). Reactions of these ligands with varied metal salts were studied, and porous MOFs with different structures were obtained and their sorption properties were investigated. For example, a three-dimensional (3D) framework [Cu3(TPTC)2(DABCO)(H2O)]�15H2O�9DMF (1 ) was obtained by reaction of H3TPTC and DABCO (1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) with copper salt. Two Co(II) microporous supramolecular isomeric frameworks [Co(HL2)]�DMF�H2O (2 ) and [Co(HL2)]�2H2O (3 ) were prepared by reactions of CoSO4�7H2O with H3L2 in aqueous DMF (N,N-dimethylformamide) and aqueous NH3 solution, respectively. The results show that the frameworks 1 -3  exhibit interesting sorption property.
