PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) with multiple benzene rings are carcinogenic and recalcitrant by biological treatment. They are easily found in the soil and groundwater contaminated sites primarily originate from the dumping and leaking of diesel such as industrial manufacturing process and storage tank leakage of petroleum including the gas production manufacture and gas stations. The objective of this study was to remove pyrene from the spiked soil such as Changhua black soil (A) and Dadu red soil (B) of central Taiwan by integrating nonionic surfactants Brij30 and Tween80 with nano particles of zero valent iron (n-ZVI) and bimetallic iron with nickel (n-Fe/Ni). From the experimental results, integration of the surfactants of 0.5 and 4% as well as nano particles (nZVI and n-Fe/Ni) of 0.15, 0.3 0.6g were effectively feasible to reduce pyrene concentration from soil when initial concentrations of 1000mg/kg. Moreover, the higher concentrations of surfactants obtained higher pyrene removal from soil that the higher doses of nano particles obtained the similar results. The remaining efficiencies of soil A and B were 41-50% and 32-41%, respectively indicating soli B was better than soil A. Thus, the integration of surfactants and nano iron particle were efficiently removed pyrene from soil which may apply in-situ soil remediation.
