Cobalt Manganese catalysts prepared by deposition precipitation using different types of carbons, such as wood carbon and peat derived carbon were studied for their activity in Fischer Tropsch synthesis. Type of carbon was found to play an important role in changing the selectivity pattern. Further an effect of calcination temperature on the surface property of the carbon supported material with respect to activity was established using data obtained from XPS and XRD. A drastic increase in the selectivity of C5+ hydrocarbons along with a significant decrease in selectivity of CH4 and CO2 was observed with the catalysts calcined at higher temperature . An increase in calcination temperature decreased surface area of material, and a change in oxidation state of cobalt metal was observed on the surface of catalyst calcined at higher temperature.
