Synthesis and electrodeposition of iridium oxide nanoparticles for the application of pH sensor is presented in this work. Iridium oxide nanoparticles with mean diameter in the range of 1-2 nm were successfully synthesized and electrodeposited on different types of metal substrates, i.e. stainless steel, Au, Cu, and Ag by cyclic voltammetry. Result showed that the CSCc value of the electrode decreased with electric conductivity of metal substrates which led to the decreasing of IrO2 thickness. From SEM images, it was observed that the surface of EIROF was rough due to the formation of hydrated iridium oxide. Electrodes fabricated from stainless steel and Au had a super-Nernstian response value of 80.4 and 74.1 mV/pH and showed excellent performance as a pH sensor, while electrodes fabricated from Cu and Ag showed a fair pH sensing ability due to their low sensitivity value of 19.7 and 24.0 mV/pH. The deviation of pH sensing ability of Cu and Ag was due to the thickness of IrO2 layer and contamination of the exposed area on the electrodes.
