This presentation demonstrates the graphene-semiconductor composites for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical production of fuels. In addition, this presentation explores the underlying mechanisms of graphene-enhanced charge separation and migration as well as charge carrier lifetime. As compared to hematite alone, the reduced graphene oxide-hematite composite exhibits much higher solar fuel generation rate because the reduced graphene oxide can shuttle the photo-generated electrons efficiently. In addition, molybdenum disulfide alone shows negligible solar hydrogen generation rate. In contract, a layer-structured molybdenum disulfide-reduced graphene oxide p-n junction shows a large solar hydrogen generate rate because the p-n junction not only enhances the charge separation but also lowers the charge separation rate.
