The structural materials of biology, including bone and muscle, remodel in response to their physical loading environment, becoming stiffer and stronger when and where needed.  Recent advances in polymer mechanochemistry have enabled related properties to be realized in synthetic materials, and this talk will present examples of how molecular-level remodeling can be used to create materials that grow over an order of magnitude stronger in response to physical environments that are typically destructive.
