The preparation of a two-coordinate bis(amido) chromium(II) complex is described. This species has been used to access the corresponding chromium(I) and chromium(III) species. The reactivity of this chromium bis(amido) series has also been explored. Oxidation of the chromium(II) bis(amido) complex with iodine results in a stable chromium(III) iodide species, which can then be alkylated.
