Chromatographic columns that utilize solid core (i.e., superficially porous) particle technology, first introduced decades ago, are experiencing a resurgence. This renewed interest is evidenced by the high number of new applications developed and recent journal articles published on solid core technology. Modern interest in solid core technology has been driven in large part by advances in chromatographic instrument capabilities. This talk is going to focus on advances in, and benefits of, solid core technology on UHPLC and traditional HPLC systems. The role that chromatographic system dispersion plays on the apparent column performance will also be discussed.
