Cephalosol, a potent antimicrobial secondary metabolite with a new carbon skeleton, was characterized from the culture of endophtic Cephalosporium acremonium IFB-E007. Its structure and absolute configuration were unambiguously determined by spectroscopic and computational approaches. We have developed a stereoselective synthesis of cephalosol and its analogues via Shrapless AD and intramolecular aldol condensation. We have been involved in evaluation of their antibacterial activity in collaboration with Microbiotix, Inc. and the resultes will be disclosed.
