Mixed oxides of Ni- Fe with hydrotalcite structure, were synthesized in molar ratios 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 and 5:1 Ni/Fe by coprecipitation method. NiFeCO3 obtained solids were calcined at 420 � C for 8 hours. The precursors , and mixed oxides resulting from calcination ,were characterized by infrared spectroscopy ( FT- IR ) , atomic absorption (AA ) and X-ray diffraction (XRD ) and tested in the catalytic combustion of methane , results of FT- IR showed the characteristic bands of the links Ni- Fe , while the molar ratio of the oxides was confirmed by atomic absorption and scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM- EDX), , the XRD results allow recognition of the crystalline phases of the oxide double laminar . It can be shown that for ratios of Ni: Fe not more than 4, show hydrotalcite phase. To close relationships to 2:1 hydrotalcite structure formed was stable and showed no loss of activity in the first hour of reaction. For high Ni / Fe ratios of 5:1 hydrotalcite phase is not the form, but the oxides on the surface carbonate material are finely dispersed. Ni-Fe catalyst (3:1) which showed the best thermal stability in the combustion of methane, with a light-off temperature for the first cycle of 555 � C.
