Transition-metal catalyzed carbonylation of halides or pseudohalides has long been established as a powerful methodology to incorporate carboxylic acids and their derivatives to organic molecules. With the aim of improving the atom and step economy of carbonylation, considerable effort has been devoted to explore direct carbonylation of simple C-H bonds. Great progress has been made on transition-metal catalyzed directed carbonylation of C(sp2)-H bonds pioneered by Fujiwara, Chatani, Yu, and others; however, the corresponding carbonylation of C(sp3)-H bonds is rare, with only a few examples reported to-date. Therefore, direct C(sp3)-H carbonylation still remains a great challenge in the field of C(sp3)-H activation.In this presentation, we report a novel nitrogen-based directed Pd(II)-catalyzed C(sp3)-H carbonylation protocol which would offer an efficient route to �-keto carboxylic acid.
