Supramolecular polymers basing on telechelic interactions exhibit a dynamic equilibrium between closed and open states. As a consequence the average length of the chains as well as their complex architecture depends on several parameters, the control of which is extremely important. These interactions may be exploited for the development of new intelligent materials with e.g. intrinsic self-healing properties.Oligomers of the heterocomplementary type have recently [1] shown to be ideal probes to investigate the supramolecular association, compatibility aspects via ? interaction parameters and equilibrium issues in solution and melt state. Neutron scattering with its unique ability to observe in parallel the relevant space and time scales by applying different labeling schemes, thereby highlighting special microscopic regions of interest, is vital for a molecular understanding of self-assembly mechanisms. Static and quasi-elastic neutron scattering experiments taking profit of the contrast between interacting blocks or the alternating structure in a partially labelled multiblock copolymer have uncovered microscopic details of internal structure and dynamics. Furthermore, the synergy of scattering methods with model chemistry and broad band techniques bridges the gap between microscopic properties and macroscopic performance responsible for the autonomous self-healing process.We will report on a RPA scattering approach in both dilute solution and bulk state and the consequences of H-bonding effects on the internal dynamics in transiently-bonded polymer chains in contrast to covalent polymers.
