A Series of platinum(II) complexes with a mer-coordinating bis(oxazolinyl)phenyl tridentate ligand and a series of pyridyl ligands was successfully prepared. Crystallographic data for the platinum(II) complexes establish that the most distorted 5-membered oxazoline rings preferentially adopt a CH2-CMe2 twist conformation. Emission and UV-visible absorption data suggest that the presence of pendent group capable of interacting with the Pt(II) center has a significant impact on the spectroscopy and reactivity of the Pt(II) complexes.
