Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) and long-range electron tunneling play pivotal roles in photosynthesis, respiration, and many other chemical processes. We use short laser pulses to trigger PCET reactions and long-range electron tunneling between ruthenium(II) / rhenium(I) complexes and phenol / thiophenol reaction partners.1,2,3 With transient absorption studies we get direct insight into the PCET and long-range electron tunneling mechanisms.4,5,6(1) Wenger, O.
