We have discovered convenient synthetic procedures for the preparation of mono-, bi-, and trinuclear imido complexes of uranium (IV). These compounds have proven useful for exploring redox reactions of uranium leading to U(V) and U(VI) products. The redox chemistry of these compounds will be discussed as will the reactivity of the imido groups. Oxygen atom transfer reactions give U(VI)(oxo)(imido) complexes that are a link between uranyl complexes and U(VI)bis(imido) complexes.   The reactivity of these compounds and their derivatives will be discussed as will computations that are directed at understanding metal-ligand covalency in these systems.
