Boron nitrogen adducts are promising hydrogen storage materials due to their favorable thermodynamics and kinetics for hydrogen release as well as their high volumetric/gravimetric hydrogen densities. However, the development of low-energy methodologies for recycling spent B-N fuels such as borazine and polyborazylene remains a significant hurdle to their implementation. A potential strategy to achieve this is to explore metal�mediated pathways that can facilitate unique reactivity of these spent fuels. This presentation compares the reductive behavior of borazines when coordinated to Cr(0) and Mn(I) fragments. The addition of nucleophiles and electrophiles across B=N bonds in these complexes as well as hydride delivery from protons and electrons is demonstrated. Additionally, the mechanism and thermodynamic requirements for metal-mediated B=N bond reduction will also be discussed based on a combination of DFT and experimental studies.
