The unique solubility properties of fluorous compounds were first applied in catalysis almost 20 years ago [1]. Appending sufficient numbers of �ponytails� {(CH2)m(CF2)n-1CF3} to organic molecules may lead to impressive enhancements of their solubilities in fluorous phases. The essence of the phase transfer activation is the orthogonality. A ligand that must dissociate for catalyst activation is phase labeled, and then trapped, generating the active species. The fluorous analogue of Grubbs 2nd generation catalyst has been successfully prepared and studied in detail by Gladysz's research group [2-3]. As part of an ongoing research, new fluorous analogues of Grubbs 3rd generation catalyst were successfully synthesized. The catalytic efficiency, using phase-transfer activation, is presented herein (Figure 1). Results of olefin metathesis reactions, conducted under biphasic (fluorous solvent/organic solvent) conditions, will be reported.References:  [1] Horvath, I.
