Those of us involved in chemistry are often asked to address public concerns about the safety of chemicals found in consumer products. Having been engaged with retailers and their supply chains around the globe figure out the right chemicals and plastics to use, I have seen firsthand the evolution of chemical safety discussions. The world realizes it need chemicals to make the products it needs and desires.  At the same time it sees that chemicals can be dangerous if not managed and used properly.  To help sort and interpret the complex health, exposure and toxicity data on various chemicals, tools and databases have emerged.  What are these tools?  What do they look at that is helpful to retailers and their supply chains?  How can they be improved? Do they help us communicate the real risks of the chemicals they evaluate?
