The first subject in the presentation will be a review on Mexican IP practice in the Biological, Pharmaceutical and Chemical areas including practical examples that will help to understand the criteria followed by Mexican Examiners. Afterwards, the presentation will include a brief overview of current Mexican practice regarding medical uses, since currently there is a dilemma in the Mexican Patent Office about which medical uses are accepted. Further, I plan to include a comparison between Mexican Patent Law and Brazilian Patent Law, given the fact that Mexico and Brazil are the largest economies of Latin America, and probably the most attractive markets for companies that seek to protect their inventions in Latin America. Finally, the presentation will include a brief overview of the development of the biofuel industry in Mexico and South America.
