Quinazolin-4(3H)-one is a core structural skeleton in many natural products and pharmaceutical drugs. Various methods were reported to synthesize such fused heterocyclic rings. Here we report a green pathway of quinazolin-4(3H)-one synthesis by anodic oxidation reaction. Except the starting materials of aldehyde and 2-aminobenzamide, no transition-metal catalysts, reactive chemical reagents or chemical oxidation/reduction reagents were utilized, and no additional chemical reagents were consumed. Therefore, the corresponding toxic chemical wastes were avoided and pollutions to the environments were reduced. Furthermore, the reaction will be applied in the synthesis of Luotonin A derivatives.
