N,S-acetals are a useful class of compounds, with many relevant medicinal and biological applications. Current synthetic pathways to these targets usually involve the preparation of an imine prior to the condensation.  We have developed a new direct approach to the synthesis of ring-fused N,S-acetals via an in situ a-C�H functionalization of the corresponding secondary amines. A broad range of amine substrates are tolerated under relatively mild conditions.  Mechanistic insights and synthetic applications will be discussed.
