The presentation will discuss the potential of pincer complexes of Rh and Co for catalyzing coupling reactions of aryl halides and related substrates.  Analogies with the reactivity of classical Pd catalysts will be highlighted.  Certain Rh systems under study can indeed effect catalysis of coupling of aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides.  Achieving similar reactivity with Co has proven more challenging.  The presentation will attempt to show how ligand design features can potentially lead to reactivity improvement.
